Eifen & Eighth Academy ("the Academy," "we," "us," or "our") is a Nigerian charitable organization that gives youths in under-developed communities in South-East Nigeria access to technology education, mentorship, and — critically — a path from training into real employment: internships, jobs, freelance work, or ventures of their own. Carrying out that mission means we necessarily collect and use personal data about the young people we serve, the people and organizations who fund us, the staff and volunteers who run our programs, and the employers who hire our graduates.
This Privacy and Consent Policy explains, in plain terms, what personal data we collect, why we collect it, the legal basis on which we process it, how we protect it, how long we keep it, who we share it with, and — because consent sits at the center of how this Academy treats the people it serves — exactly when we ask for consent, what that consent covers, and how anyone can withdraw it.
Two commitments run through everything below, and through the design of the systems that hold this data:
- Privacy comes before transparency when the two are in tension. We are proud of our beneficiaries' outcomes and want donors to see the impact of their giving, but a vulnerable young person's privacy is never traded for a better donor story. Anything that could identify an individual beneficiary is withheld from any public or donor-facing view unless that person — or their parent/guardian, if they are a minor — has given specific, informed, opt-in consent.
- We collect the minimum data needed to run the program well, not everything we could plausibly ask for. Fields that are not tied to a clear purpose (for example, a beneficiary's date of birth, gender, or health information) are not collected unless a specific need arises — and if one ever does, it triggers the same consent and enhanced-protection obligations as any other sensitive personal data point under Nigerian law.
